With the support of prestigious institutions, Del Sol has commissioned and premiered over 100 works by a diverse range of contemporary composers, including Mason Bates, Gabriela Lena Frank, Chinary Ung, Mohammed Fairouz, Tania León, Ken Ueno, Peter Sculthorpe, Reza Vali and Per Nørgård. Based in San Francisco, the group was founded at the Banff Centre for the Arts in 1992. Del Sol has released seven critically acclaimed, full-length recordings since 2002, including two on the GRAMMY® Award-winning Sono Luminus label. Two-time winner of the top Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, the Del Sol String Quartet is a leading force in 21st century chamber music, commissioning and performing outstanding new works from around the world, collaborating with other artists in multi-media, dance, video and opera productions, and providing innovative educational programs.
